Marquette News
April 14, 2008
“If I were approached at the beginning!”
“If I were approached at the beginning” was a
phrase I heard this week.
Did it upset me yes it did.
Why a comment like that would upset me, well for one why is
that people think they have to be asked to help with something, why
can’t they just offer.
Especially when they know there is something exciting and good
happening in their community.
I have found more people would rather sit back, watch and
criticize. Why can’t
people step up to the plate and offer their assistance?
No instead we choose to complain that there is nothing to do,
the community has nothing to offer or I am too busy.
Number 1 Marquette has a lot to offer, as for being to busy
well all I can say is I work a 40 hour a week
job during the day, I put in 40 + hours a week in the evening
on my website business, I have time for my family and friends and I
find time to help when needed.
I know there are few of you who really care
about our community and I want to begin by saying THANK YOU!
You do make a difference.
Aurora, Central City and
Grand Island
have been a great support in our community for this Veteran’s
Fundraiser. I am now
asking YOU once again to support your own community and help.
I am not a native of
Marquette
however; I care about our community.
I moved to a small community because I was always under the
impression that a small community was like having an extended
family, they were there through the good and bad times.
I would like to see things happen in Marquette, whether it is a
fundraiser, picnics, and dances whatever.
But I was really disappointed in the lack of positive
response from the community to fill out a simple survey that took
about 5 minutes of your time to help get a new Fire Hall for our
town. Those of you that
did the survey I salute you good job you took that step to show your
support for your community those of you who didn’t well I don’t have
to say anymore.
I realize this fundraiser is not for Vietnam
Veterans, WWI or WWII and Desert Storm veterans etc.
I am not saying these veterans didn’t contribute they did in
ways most of you will never imagine.
My dad is a Vietnam Veteran, my grandfather is a WWI and WWII
veteran and I am a Desert Storm veteran.
But we have a new issue at hand the veterans from
Iraq and Afghanistan.
Do you realize how many are coming back and have become
alcoholics or have post traumatic stress disorder once know as shell
shock and battle fatigue.
We should open our eyes, hearts and arms to our returning
veteran’s. Show
your support to your community and your veterans by volunteering
your time.

Marquette is currently working on acquiring
land for the new Fire Hall two locations have been suggested:
The old chicken coop land or the land east on the other side
of the old tracks from the park.
The land east of the park would be ideal, the water lines,
the roads etc are pretty much established.
Congratulation

The Hamilton County Commissioners did not
approve the drag however, it was understandable.
The concern being liability and with today with people being
so quick to sue I have to agree with their decision.
I would like to say thank you to the commissioners for taking
the time to hear me out.
Thank you.
We are really excited about the event.
We are getting a lot of positive response.
Some have asked what exactly do we mean by Veteran’s
Fundraiser. Well we are
raising funds for our returning veterans from
Iraq
and Afghanistan.
I have spoken with our area Veterans Affairs Officer and he
has been very helpful and getting information on organizations that
are available to donate to.
I would also like to thank the American Legion for agreeing
to do the opening Ceremony, the Marquette Fire Department for
agreeing to do the Beer Garden.
We are looking for volunteers to assist in many
areas, such as judging, signing up people for the tournaments and
class events. If you are
interested in volunteering your services please email me at
mrdvorak@hamilton.net.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week and if you have
anything you would like to post please let me know.

March 10,2008 Wow, our
1st Annual Hot Rods and Harley Festival are really
starting to come together.
Some of you are probably wondering how we are going to have
enough room for all these people, well the event will be taking
place on 4 acres and the building is the old
Marquette
School which is now the
Marquette Event center which is 24,500 sq ft.
Wondering who the special appearance is going to be then you
will have to watch our advertisements that we will be having going
out and keep reading my articles.
I will eventually be unveiling who the special appearance is
going to be. Don’t
forget to check out our website
www.hotrodsandharley.com
This event is a fundraiser for the returning veterans from
Iraq and Afghanistan.
We are looking for individuals who want to head the committee
in helping our returning vets and their families.

being on the committee please call Ken Bertrand at 951-306-4322 and
he can tell you all about it.
We will also have a book signing two authors
will be there Tom Sherman and George McVicker.
I had the honors of meeting Mr. McVicker at the Lincoln Horse
Expo this weekend what a wonderful person.
Not to mention our own local writer Tom Sherman who is a
veteran and a wonderful person to get to know.
Usually I put a joke in the column but sorry no
joke this week maybe next week.
I would love to hear from readers and if you would like to
put something in the news let me know.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week and if you

Here is some food for thought that I would like
to send out to some of my friends, family, and readers: Two Pots~ an
elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a
pole which she carried across her neck. One of the pots had a crack
in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full
portion of water. At the end of the long walks from the stream to
the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two
years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and
a half pots of water. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its
accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own
imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it
had been made to do. After two years of what it perceived to be
bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream. "I am
ashamed of myself, be cause this crack in my side causes water to
leak out all the way back to your house." The old woman smiled, "Did
you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not
on the other pot's side?" "That's because I have always known about
your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and
every day while we walk back, you water them." "For two years I have
been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table.
Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this
beauty to grace the house. "Each of us has our own unique flaw. But
it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together
so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each
person for what they are and look for the good in them.
SO, to all of my crackpot friends, have a great day and
remember to smell the flowers on you r side of the path!
I hope everyone has a wonderful week and if you
have anything you would like to post please let me know.
